Angry protests in Barcelona reject Spanish rule of Catalonia

Nearly a half-million defiant Catalans came out on Saturday in Barcelona to support secession from Spain after the Madrid government triggered Article 155 of the 1978 Constitution.

Catalonia's president, Carles Puigdemont, has accused the Spanish government of attacking its democracy by moving to take political control of the region.

Puigdemont claimed Spain was taking the worst path since the dictatorship of Francisco Franco.
