Arab League: Ministers condemn Iran and Hezbollah

A meeting of the Arab League in Cairo has agreed to condemn Iran and Hezbollah - labelling the Lebanese group a “terrorist” organisation.

Saudi Arabia requested the meeting to discuss alleged “violations” committed by Iran in the region against a backdrop of heightened tension between Riyadh and Tehran over Lebanon.

As the Arab league held its meeting Iran's foreign minister was in southern Turkey for talks on the Syrian civil war, announcing that he was working to build on the ceasefire his government had helped achieve.

Tweeting from there Mohammed Javad Zarif said he found Saudi Arabia’s accusations against Iran “ironic” and that the kingdom “fuels terrorists, wages war on Yemen, blockades Qatar & foments crisis in Lebanon.”

Al Jazeera's Bernard Smith reports.
