In India’s northeastern Assam state, at least eight people have died and more than half a million have been forced to flee their homes as heavy flooding from pre-monsoon rains inundated the countryside. Rainfall continued on May 19, 2022, with more rain expected over the next two days. National authorities have warned that the flood situation could worsen.
