More than 82,000 people across mainland China are now reported to be infected with Covid-19 as of March 31, 2022. Officials say the new Omicron BA.2 variant is to blame for the latest and most serious outbreak in the country since early 2020. In China’s capital, the Beijing Railway Station is eerily deserted after people have been advised to reduce travel. It’s among several measures being implemented highlighting the country’s continuing adherence to its ‘dynamic’ zero-Covid strategy.
