A British judge ruled on January 4, 2021, that WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange should not be extradited to the US to face charges of espionage and conspiring to obtain secret US documents by hacking government computers. Assange was given an 18-count indictment from the US government after WikiLeaks released thousands of classified US military records and diplomatic cables in 2010 and 2011. The court cited concerns over Assange’s mental health as a reason for blocking the extradition request.
