Canadian PM Justin Trudeau Gives a Coronavirus Update | LIVE | NowThis

COVID-19 CHALLENGES SINGLE-USE PLASTICS BAN: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau delivers updates on Canada’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The crisis has posed a problem for one Trudeau’s plan to phase out single-use plastics in 2021, one of his administration’s signature promises. Most of the materials used in response to the pandemic, including gloves, bottles holding sanitizer, and containers for wipes, are single-use or non-recyclable. ‘There are alternatives in all cases to plastic and that is what the government needs to be focusing on right now,’ a representative of Greenpeace Canada told Bloomberg. A spokesperson for Environment Minister Jonathan Wilkinson told Bloomberg that the administration was still planning on rolling out the ban in 2021, but would take into special consideration the effects the ban would have on response to the coronavirus, as well as future potential health threats.
