Beijing and Wellington signed a deal to upgrade their existing free-trade pact on January 26, 2021. The pact eliminated almost all trade tariffs on New Zealand’s exports, giving the nation greater access to the world’s second-largest economy. China is New Zealand’s largest trading partner, with two-way trade now valued at around NZ$32 billion (US$23 billion) a year.
