Cambodia’s performing arts group Phare offers local children from underprivileged communities a chance to get an education, earn money and pursue their dreams. Founded by a group of artists who were Khmer Rouge survivors, Phare was set up to preserve the performing arts in Cambodia. In addition to its schools in the city of Battambang, the group also runs a circus, featuring acrobatic performers who were former students like Khon Lidorn. Unbeknown to his parents, Khon secretly began training when he was nine years old. He says the Phare Circus has afforded him the opportunity to travel, support his family and live the life that he wants.
