Cases of a potentially more transmissible coronavirus variant that first emerged in Britain have been found in India, Japan, South Korea, Canada and at least nine European countries. Japan has also reported its first case of another mutated coronavirus variant, this one first identified in South Africa. The new strain shares some similarities with the Covid-19 variant that has already spread across Britain.
