Cuban Communist party leader Raul Castro has officially passed the baton to Miguel Diaz-Canel in the closing session of the eighth Party Congress.
This makes Diaz-Canel Cuba's president and head of the party, the first person to run the island who is not a Castro since the 1959 revolution.
The former engineer faces a collapsing economy and growing dissent, especially among younger Cubans.
