Egypt displays 250 mummies and hundreds of ancient pharaonic artefacts unearthed from pyramid

Hundreds of recently unearthed ancient artefacts dating back some 2,500 years were put on display by Egypt’s antiquities authorities on May 30, 2022. The coffins and statues were showcased at a makeshift exhibit at the Step Pyramid of Djoser in Saqqara, 24km (15 miles) southwest of the capital Cairo. The find included statues of important gods and a headless statue of the architect Imhotep, who built the pyramid at the pharaonic necropolis. The artefacts will be transferred to a permanent exhibit at the new Grand Egyptian Museum, a mega project under construction near the famed Giza Pyramids, due to open in late 2022.
