A massive fire at a container depot near Chittagong in southeastern Bangladesh has killed at least 49 people and injured more than 300 others. The blaze at the BM Inland Container Depot, a Dutch-Bangladesh joint venture, broke out around midnight on June 4, 2022, after a series of explosions set several containers filled with chemicals on fire. Firefighters suspect the blaze at the facility in the town of Sitakunda may have started with a container carrying hydrogen peroxide. A recovery mission is under way to collect bodies of the victims.
