Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor announced a new raft of tougher coronavirus measures as the city faces its fourth wave of infections. During a press conference on December 8, 2020, she said all restaurants will be ordered to shut after 6pm. All gyms, beauty and massage parlours will also be asked to close under the measures going into effect on December 10 under what Lam described as a “very worrying” situation. To fight the spread of the virus, the government has also stepped up testing efforts. Five additional community test centres have been set up, and Covid-19 sampling kits are being provided at vending machines in MTR train stations across the city. As of December 8, Hong Kong had confirmed 6,976 Covid-19 cases and 112 related deaths.
