Diplomatic efforts to resolve the Gulf diplomatic crisis are afoot. Theresa May, UK prime minister, has spoken to the leaders of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Qatar and urged them to de-escalate the situation. Turkey's foreign minister said he expects the Saudi king to lead efforts to resolve the crisis.
Mevlut Cavusoglu was speaking in Ankara after a brief visit to the region where he met the emir of Qatar as well as the emir of Kuwait, who is leading mediation efforts. He plans to fly to Mecca on Friday to meet the Saudi leader.
