Germany criticises Turkey jailing of rights activists as relations worsen

Sigmar Gabriel, Germany's foreign minister, has criticised Turkey over the jailing of six human-rights activists and warned German citizens they could face arbitrary arrest in the country.

Diplomatic ties between the two countries were strained after a German human rights adviser was arrested in Istanbul earlier this month.
