Going underground to beat the summer heat in parts of China

China has opened nine free cooling facilities for the public to escape the sweltering heat, according to state media. Among them is the Fohui Mountain Cooling Centre, a former civil air defence location in eastern China. The spaces are equipped with seats, recreational facilities, books and newspapers. The China Meteorological Administration predicted that much of the country will see temperatures hitting close to 40 degrees Celsius (104°F).
