Trump used the SOTU to call for an end to investigations against him, just like Nixon did months before he resigned in disgrace.

Former President Richard Nixon famously called for an end to the Watergate investigation in his last State of the Union address as president of the United States. In President Donald Trump's 2019 state of the union address he also called for the end of an investigation: the Robert Mueller investigation, aka the Russia investigation, into his and the Trump campaign's alleged ties to Russia and how it affected the 2016 election. This Trump Nixon video shows the uncanny resemblance. Nixon resigned in disgrace less than a year after this state of the union.

TRUMP: An economic miracle is taking place in the United States, and the only thing that can stop it are foolish wars, politics, or ridiculous partisan investigations.

NIXON:The time has come to bring [the Watergate] investigation and the other investigations of that matter to an end.

TRUMP: If there is going to be peace and legislation, there cannot be war and investigation. It just doesn’t work that way.

NIXON: And the time has come, my colleagues, for all of us to join together.

TRUMP: We must go forward together.

NIXON: With the help of God who has blessed this land…

TRUMP: ...we must always keep faith in America’s destiny…

NIXON: …and a new prosperity without war in the United States of America.
