Senator Ron Wyden is explaining how the Trump administration is allowing for taxpayer-funded discrimination. President Trump is allowing foster care agencies in South Carolina to discriminate against potential foster and adoptive parents based on their religion or sexual orientation. Wyden explains that parents who are able and willing to foster children will be turned away because they're Jewish, not protestant, or have no faith at all. It is also legal for South Carolina foster care agencies to turn away LGBTQ parents. This is both homophobia and anti-Semitism in action. The Trump administration acted on this at the request of Republican Governor Henry McMaster. Agency Miracle Hill has already turned away a Jewish woman. Wyden believes besides being state-funded discrimination, this is also a strain on the foster care system.
