The European Union and Japan have agreed in principle to one of the largest free-trade deals to date.
The so-called Economic Partnership Agreement is likely to give Japan's auto industry better access to European markets.
But the deal is being seen as a show of opposition to the US President Donald Trump's protectionist turn.
