Japanese middle-aged heartthrobs dance on TikTok to save their disappearing hometown

Calling themselves “old heartthrobs,” four middle-aged men in Japan have been using TikTok to promote their small rural town of Wake in Japan’s western Okayama region. Dressed in business attire and multi-coloured belly-warmer bands, they dance in various locations in their rural town that has been suffering from a population decline. Their awkward dance videos have garnered over 34,000 followers on TikTok, and have put the small town of 14,000 people in the spotlight.
