National Economic Council Director Brian Deese joins White House press secretary Jen Psaki for a press briefing. Later today, Pres. Biden will be taking more executive actions, this time targeting the economy in an attempt at offering further relief to those hit hardest by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Some of the actions include calling for a $15 minimum wage for federal employees and contractors, expanding protections for employees who quit their jobs due to feeling unsafe in their work environments, increasing federal assistance for those facing food insecurity, and ensuring that all of the eligible 8 million Americans who have yet to receive their stimulus checks get the funds in their hands. ‘We are at a precarious moment in our economy,’ Deese recently told reporters on a press call. ‘The American people cannot afford to wait. So many are hanging by a thread.’
