Joint Session of Congress Meets to Certify Election Results | LIVE | NowThis

150+ REPUBLICANS SEEK TO OVERTHROW DEMOCRACY: In what is typically a mere formality, Congress meets to certify the results of November’s presidential election. At least 140 GOP reps and 14 senators have said they will object to certifying President-elect Joe Biden’s victory based on already debunked voter fraud conspiracy theories, although none of the members claiming the vote was rigged seem to have any doubts about the legitimacy of their own elections. The president has publicly pressured Pence to throw out the election results, but the vice president has no such authority. His job is simply to count the votes. Theoretically, Congress could disqualify states’ votes, but Trump’s allies do not have the votes to pull off such a move. While their attempt to overturn a free and fair election will fail, it will likely succeed in undermining confidence in America’s democratic process.
