Kenyatta wins election rerun, but violence continues in Kenya

Unofficial results from Kenya's repeat presidential election suggest President Uhuru Kenyatta has won more than 97 percent of the vote.

But his mandate appears to be weak, with a low turnout estimated to be less than 35 percent and opposition supporters boycotting the vote.

The election has also been marred by violence, with voting suspended in some opposition strongholds. Police say they are attempting to stop criminals and violent protesters, but it appears a political battle is being fought in the streets.

Al Jazeera's Fahmida Miller reports from Nairobi.
