La Soufrière Volcano Erupts in St. Vincent

Satellite footage shows the enormous plumes of ash erupting from the La Soufrière volcano on the Caribbean island of St. Vincent. Ash from the volcano has even been reported in Barbados, 100+ miles away.

There have been no deaths or injuries as a result of the ongoing incident, but thousands of people have been evacuated since the volcano’s activity started on Friday — however, some residents have refused to leave. Erouscilla Joseph, a seismic expert based in the region, told the AP that the volcano is ‘destroying everything in its path.’

‘Anybody who would have not heeded the evacuation, they need to get out immediately,’ she added.
