In world news, a mass grave of more than 1,200 Holocaust victims was found at a construction site in Brest, Belarus. The victims were likely killed as a part of Hitler and the Nazi regime's "final solution" to kill all Jewish people in Eastern Europe during World War II, resulting in the Holocaust.

Builders discovered hundreds of bones in February while laying down the foundation for a new apartment block at the site of an old Jewish ghetto. An estimated 28,000 people were held in the Brest ghetto, which was created by Nazi forces in 1941. Soldiers who exhumed the bodies reportedly found bullet holes in the back of some of the skulls. Local activists called for construction to be halted in case more remains were present. On May 22, the remains were buried in 120 coffins bearing the Star of David.
