Officials Hold Briefing on Operation Warp Speed and COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution | LIVE | NowThis

BIDEN CRITICIZES TRUMP ADMIN. VACCINE ROLLOUT: Officials from the Dept. of Health and Human Services and the Dept. of Defense hold a briefing to discuss Operation Warp Speed and COVID-19 vaccine distribution. While delivering remarks yesterday about the ongoing pandemic, Pres.-elect Joe Biden criticized the vaccine distribution rollout efforts led by the Trump administration. ‘As I long feared and warned, the effort to distribute and administer the vaccine is not progressing as it should,’ Biden said, remarking that at the current rate of vaccination it would ‘take years, not months, to vaccinate the American people.’ Biden then vowed that his administration would take a ‘much more aggressive effort’ to get the vaccine to all corners of the country.

On Monday, drug manufacturer Novavax announced it had started phase 3 of its COVID-19 vaccine trials. Novavax was awarded $1.6 billion of funding over the summer as part of Operation Warp Speed to research and develop a vaccine candidate. The drug manufacturer is already preparing to deliver 100 million doses to the United States in the new year. Currently, two vaccines have received emergency use authorization within the United States and are being administered to health care workers; Novavax’s would be the third vaccine available in the country.
