Orlando Bloom’s gonna need a bigger board. The ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ actor and a friend were having a stand-up paddle session when what appeared to be a juvenile great white shark began swimming around the open water.

The bird’s eye view was captured by Carlos Gauna (@TheMalibuArtist on Instagram) and shows Bloom keeping his head on a swivel as the shark swam around. Gauna wrote admiringly about the roles that sharks have in our world, reminding others to think twice before giving into any fear that comes with the predator’s presence. ‘Yes, it’s an apex predator, and yes we must be responsible in our interactions with them,’ Gauna wrote. ‘But as I’ve said before, sharks can be scary, but they are nowhere near as scary as a world without sharks.’

Bloom shared Gauna’s footage on his own Instagram, writing, ‘When fear becomes your friend.’ Gauna said as cool as it is to capture a shark in its natural habitat, capturing the actor was cool as well. ‘In the end, the real stars of the sea are the sharks. But having Legolas himself nearby. That’s pretty cool!’
