Normally thriving black markets along the Pakistani side of the Afghan border are struggling to survive, as US troops wrap up their military presence in Afghanistan ahead of the 20th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. The loosely controlled border has been a pipeline for smuggled items such as military goods and gadgets, clothing and luxury goods to enter Pakistan. Many merchants have been forced to rethink their business model, with some replacing their products with cheap goods from China and Southeast Asia.
