Pakistan court charges ex-PM Nawaz Sharif with corruption

A Pakistani court has formally charged the ousted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter and son-in-law with corruption, opening a trial that could see the former leader jailed.

The 2016 Panama Papers revealed the family had used offshore companies to buy expensive properties in London and their wealth did not match their income.

The accused insist the proceedings are part of an opposition-fueled conspiracy.

Al Jazeera's Patty Culhane reports.
