Pakistani President Arif Alvi confirmed on March 29, 2021, that he has tested positive for the coronavirus, hours after the government imposed a partial lockdown in high-risk areas in the country amid a sharp spike in new cases. Alvi said the test indicating he has the infection comes about two weeks after he received a Chinese-made Covid-19 vaccine. More than a week earlier, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan also tested positive after he also had taken his first shot of the Chinese-made vaccine Sinopharm, donated to Pakistan by China.
