Pres.-elect Joe Biden Announces Nomination for Education Secretary | LIVE | NowThis

BIDEN ANNOUNCES EDUCATION SECRETARY NOMINEE: President-elect Joe Biden and VP-elect Kamala Harris formally announce the nomination of Connecticut education commissioner Miguel Cardona to serve as secretary of education. Cardona served as a public school teacher, elementary school principal, assistant superintendent, and adjunct professor at the University of Connecticut before being appointed Connecticut’s first Latinx education commissioner in 2019. If approved by the Senate, Cardona is expected to make significant changes within the Dept. of Education that was previously run by billionaire and private-school enthusiast Betsy DeVos.

‘Dr. Miguel Cardona is a former public school teacher, experienced administrator, public school parent, and a proven leader who is ready to lead on day one,’ Biden said in a statement. ‘He will implement the president-elect’s bold education agenda, starting with investing in all our students, supporting our educators, and making reopening our schools safely a national priority.’
