Pres. Trump Awards Presidential Medal of Freedom to Jim Ryun | LIVE | NowThis

TRUMP AWARDS PRESIDENTIAL MEDAL OF FREEDOM: Pres. Trump is awarding the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Jim Ryun. Ryun, 73, is a three-time Olympian distance runner and former Republican Congressman who represented Kansas’ second district for 10 years. Ryun is also known as the first runner to break a 4-minute mile while in high school. Ryun has said that he is ‘very humbled’ to even be considered, adding that ‘one of the things that’s really special about it, too, is that I’m getting it while I’m alive. Sometimes these are awarded after you’re dead.’ In a news release earlier this week, the White House said that the nation’s highest civilian honor is given ‘to individuals who have made especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.’
