During a speech to rally Washington’s European allies for a “long-haul” resistance to Moscow’s aggression after its invasion of Ukraine. US President Joe Biden has said Russian President Vladimir Putin “cannot remain in power”. Biden’s remarks, made on March 26, 2022, while he was visiting Warsaw, Poland, drew immediate backlash from Moscow. The White House later said the US leader was not speaking about regime change, arguing that the word “power” referred to what Moscow wields beyond its borders, not within Russia.
