The remote Hong Kong village of Lai Chi Wo was the traditional home of the Hakka people for centuries. Located in the northeastern valley of the New Territories, the village has been deserted for decades after most of the local residents moved to the city or abroad for work. In a bid to revive the village, a group of researchers from the University of Hong Kong launched a pilot project to start a coffee plantation in Lai Chi Wo to bring new life to abandoned farmlands.
