The Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline, which connects Russia to much of Europe, temporarily closed for annual maintenance on July 11, 2022. The suspension is expected to last for 10 days, but European officials worry that the Kremlin will extend it beyond the maintenance period, destabilising countries like Germany, which receives 30 per cent of its fuel supply via the Nord Stream 1.
