The Russian city of Tolyatti has long been synonymous with leading car manufacturer AvtoVAZ, which produces Lada, one of Russia’s best-known automotive brands. The sanctions imposed on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine has meant that the city and AvtoVAZ workers are bracing for tough times ahead. Employees have been placed on paid leave with reduced salaries despite soaring living costs. This comes as Russia faces a fresh round of sanctions from the United States and Britain, which have also targeted the daughters of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
