The government of Saudi Arabia says 11 Princes have been arrested in Riyadh after protesting against austerity measures, according to the official Saudi Press Agency SPA.

They're being held in al-Ha'ir prison, a notorious high-security prison.

That's in contrast to dozens of other high profile figures, who were detained in a luxury hotel last year, during a so-called anti-corruption drive.

Other reports say that in fact they were cousins of a prince who was executed in October 2016 and that they had come to ask for retribution.

Al Jazeera's Peter Sharp reports.
