Granholm has previously served two terms as the governor of Michigan after serving as the state’s attorney general. A former leader in an industrial state, Biden tapped Granholm for her experience in creating clean jobs within a growing economy, particularly during the Great Recession. During her testimony before the committee last week, Granholm said that she would focus on protecting jobs while also transitioning the country to more sustainable energy sources. ‘We can put our workers in good-paying jobs manufacturing and installing those solutions in America,’ she told the committee. After the procedural vote, the committee will then hold a hearing on how the United States should address the climate crisis, with testimony from Dr. Fatih Birol of the International Energy Agency, Dr. Richard Newell of Resources for the Future, and other environmental leaders.
