The government shutdown is affecting thousands of contract workers such as cafeteria workers, security guards, custodians and janitors – and unlike those federal employees who will get back-pay, contractors who are often hired by private employers are not guaranteed any back-pay.

Senator Brown and other Democrats are introducing legislation that would help pay back low-income contractors affected by the shutdown. The shutdown threatens to impact upward of 3 million contractors, and thousands of contractors are struggling without pay because of President Trump's decision to shutdown the government.
