One day after Shanghai emerged from its two-month Covid lockdown, many popular landmarks in China’s biggest city remained mostly deserted. Usually bustling with tourists, Yuyuan Garden, a classical Chinese garden complex, was eerily quiet. Many streets and shops were also largely empty, with restaurants only allowed to open for takeaway. Negative PCR tests for the coronavirus taken within the previous 48-72 hours continue to be required in many cities including Shanghai to enter public venues.
