Ireland is one of Europe's economic success stories, ranking amongst the world's wealthiest countries.

Now, the Irish government is looking to play a more prominent diplomatic role on the world stage. Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney even travelled to Tehran recently to meet with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, aiming to make Ireland a mediator between the parties involved in the disputed nuclear deal.

Will he succeed at what seems one of the world’s most pressing diplomatic challenges? And what is the Irish perspective on other international affairs, from Brexit to the COVID-19 pandemic? Simon Coveney talks to Al Jazeera.
