Widespread protests in Sri Lanka continued on July 13. Crowds have now overtaken the Prime Minister's office, days after first breaching the PM's residence and the presidential palace.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who was expected to resign on Wednesday, has reportedly fled the country to the nearby Maldives. PM Ranil Wickremesinghe, who has also been named acting president with Rajapaksa's departure, has called on military and police forces to 'do what is necessary to restore order.'
