Chinese paleontologists said subtropical forests may have existed on the high-altitude Qinghai-Tibet Plateau about 47 million years ago. A team of scientists from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a research institute in Beijing, China, studied more than 1,000 plant fossil specimens that researchers say are closely related to plantlife in today’s subtropical or tropical regions. The results of the research were published in the peer-reviewed journal ‘Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America’ on December 8, 2020.
