In world news now and Sudan news, Sudan protests have turned violent months after Omar Al Bashir's ouster. This Sudan video from NowThis news shows how the violent that befell protests in Sudan has resulted in empty streets in the North Africa country. This Sudan crisis 2019 is starting to capture international attention.

Mass civil disobedience strikes in Sudan have left its streets deserted after a military crackdown killed at least 100 peaceful protesters.

Pro-democracy group Sudanese Professionals Association (SPA) called for the nation-wide strike after military forces attacked a protest camp in the country’s capital of Khartoum on June 3. Local doctors said some of the bodies were later found in the Nile.

Sudan government officials claimed the protesters closing off roads and setting up barricades constituted criminal activity. They have shut off internet access in large parts of the country, leaving protesters unable to organize.

Protesters have gathered in the streets for weeks to demand the ruling Transitional Military Council (TMC) hand power over to a civilian-led government. The TMC took power after months of protests resulted in the ousting of long-time President Omar al-Bashir in April 2019.

They had initially agreed on a 3-year transition plan to a democratic government. But many pro-democracy activists don’t trust the military after the recent attacks. Sudan's ruling military council says they are investigating the deaths. Some fear the strike will make it harder for people to live in Sudan.

Security forces are stationed around Khartoum Gunshots have been reported around the city, but protesters say they will not back down.

‘The current stance is that the revolution is ongoing, and that the peaceful methods of resistance continue. I believe that the revolutionary road taken since December will reach its goal in the end - maybe tonight, a month from now, or a year from now. That does not matter. What matters is that the will of the Sudanese people remains unbroken.’ -- A LEADER OF THE DECLARATION OF FREEDOM AND CHANGE FORCES, KHALED OMAR,
