Human rights activist Tareq Alaows, 31, is hoping to be the first Syrian refugee to be elected to the German parliament after coming to the country six years ago.
Part of the one million Syrians who fled the brutal war when it started in 2011, Alaows is now running as a Green Party candidate and wants to be the voice for many refugees like himself.

Al Jazeera’s Dominic Kane reports from the German Parliament, Berlin.
