The Taliban claims to have killed three fighters with Islamic State Khorasan (Isis-K), the Isis affiliate in Afghanistan, and arrested two others during a gunfight in Kabul. The clash took place at a house in the Afghan capital on the evening of January 9, 2022. The Taliban seized control of Afghanistan in August 2021 as US forces withdrew after 20 years in the country. The Taliban and Isis-K are long-time enemies, and the two militant groups have clashed because of ideological differences over Islamic rules.
