Terminally ill David Bennett is recovering after receiving a heart transplant from a pig on January 7, 2022. The organ used on the 57-year-old had been genetically modified to prevent immediate rejection, a groundbreaking procedure that could transform the prospects of the tens of thousands of transplant patients awaiting donor organs. Dr Bartley Griffith, the surgeon who performed the surgery, says he hopes his patient will make a full recovery and that the procedure would offer hope to other organ transplant patients.
