The UK parliament has passed a non-binding motion declaring that Uygurs in China’s Xinjiang region are suffering “genocide”. The motion passed on April 23, 2021 does not compel Britain to take any action. But it called on the UK government to “fulfil its obligations” under relevant United Nations conventions “to bring it to an end”. Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s government made it clear it didn’t back the resolution.
