Six weeks into Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson paid an unannounced visit to Kyiv on April 9, 2022, a day after vowing to send British armoured vehicles and anti-ship missiles to Ukraine. Johnson’s visit to the Ukrainian capital included a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky, and took place after a missile strike killed dozens at a railway station in the country’s east on April 8. Johnson’s visit comes as a host of other European leaders have travelled to Ukraine amid allegations of atrocities committed by Russian invasion troops, including civilians killed in Bucha, near Kyiv.
