UN seeks ways to protect heritage sites in war zones

The United Nations Security Council is meeting to consider how to protect cultural heritage in war zones.

Heritage sites are threatened by fighting world-wide and satellite images show much of the recent looting and destruction concentrated around conflict zones in the Middle East.

Innovation in digital technology is helping to record and even replicate what has been lost. But immediate action is being urged to stop the destruction from happening altogether.
